The initiative, sponsored by the World Bank in collaboration with the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYSUBEB) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), is being coordinated under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme headed by Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Education intervention, Hon Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamy.

Hon Tiamy while speaking to the newsmen during the event, explained that the gadgets are embedded with security features allowing the government to monitor their use and receive weekly reports from teachers.

Meanwhile, the teachers who received the devices described the initiative as a “game-changer” that will ease lesson preparation, reduce workload, and equip both educators and students with vital digital learning skills.

Also, the Chairman of OYSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, commended the Makinde administration for prioritizing education, noting that the 2025 budget allocation to the sector already surpasses the UNESCO benchmark.

The event was attended by the South West Zonal Director of UBEC, Mr. Alabi Baba Asaaju, as well as state commissioners, top government officials, and other education stakeholders.

With the distribution of 18,000 tablets, the Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology to bridge learning gaps, boost academic performance, and make its public schools more competitive in a technology-driven world.
