The Special Adviser to Gov Makinde On Education Intervention, Honourable Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamy has advised all stakeholders in Education to prioritise, invest, and reduce corruption in basic education.
Hon Tiamy stated this during an inspection exercise conducted by the Oyo State Better Education Service Delivery for All Additional Finance—Transforming Education System at states level (BESDA AF-TESS), in collaboration with the World Bank and Global Partnership for Education, as well the Oyo state government in Ibadan.
Counselling the stakeholders there present, Tiamy said that government is doing its own part as Makinde-led administration prioritised education in its budget allocations and ensured that such funds are properly disbursed and utilised for education-related purposes.
According to Tiamy, "Makinde-led administration is doing great by increasing funding for education, improve teachers’ trainings and professional development, and Increase access to technology and digital resources among the teachers-students interactions across Oyo State schools.
"This administration is also investing in teachers' training and development programmes to ensure that teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality education needed to impact on our wards in schools," Tiamy reiterated.
In his remarks, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof Salihu Adelabu, highlighted the state government’s efforts to implement reforms in the education sector, focusing on enhancing teachers’ professionalism and improving infrastructure.
While reacting, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, expressed the excitement of the state government about the World Bank’s support which he said would positively impart the education sector in the State.
Meanwhile, the World Bank representatives explained that the purpose of the inspection was to assess the implementation and outcomes of the project plans, and give feedbacks for future improvements.
Recall that the Oyo State Better Education Service Delivery for All Additional Finance — Transforming Education System at states level (BESDA AF-TESS), in collaboration with the World Bank and Global Partnership for Education, as well the Oyo state government, have launched an inspection exercise to evaluate the progress of educational projects aimed at strengthening and advancing the educational system in Oyo State.
The inspection exercise was designed to ensure that school administrations align with the educational goals of the World Bank, which include renovating school facilities, and increasing equitable access for out –of- school children.
